Oryx, January 2012

Having worked in Zurich for a few years, I was glad for the chance to write about fun things to do there for Oryx, the inflight magazine of Qatar Airways.

I wrote the piece in English and it was translated into Arabic as well. You can read the English version here: Weekend Away, Zurich.

All sorts of tasty treats are for sale in the IM VIADUKT Markthalle.

The viaduct across Zurich’s industrial neighbourhood has been a landmark for more than century. Today, its arches shelter a variety of small businesses, making it a gourmet temple, funky shopping strip and cultural meeting point. It is also home to the city’s first covered market hall.

Switzerland’s recycling figures for plastic drink bottles are at an all-time high, but there is no nationwide system for recycling other types of plastic. Packaging for food, cosmetics and other everyday products generally lands in the incinerator.
