Saint Jost's Chapel in Dottenberg near Lucerne

The role of organized religion in Switzerland is an increasingly small one, according to a publically funded study.

Through hundreds of questionnaires as well as dozens of in-depth interviews with individuals across the country, researchers have found that the Swiss population has distanced itself from organized Christianity as well as traditional spirituality in recent decades.

All sorts of tasty treats are for sale in the IM VIADUKT Markthalle.

The viaduct across Zurich’s industrial neighbourhood has been a landmark for more than century. Today, its arches shelter a variety of small businesses, making it a gourmet temple, funky shopping strip and cultural meeting point. It is also home to the city’s first covered market hall.

A look by Greek-born designer Mary Katrantzou, winner of the 2010 Swiss Textiles Award

While other cities have fashion weeks, Zurich has been making do with a single night. That changed this year when the city hosted its first Fashion Days. The four-day event has expanded to include a business forum, award presentations and seven blocks of fashion shows at the Puls 5 cultural center.

“Switzerland is quite known for design – in particular textiles and architecture. But it’s not like Italy or France, where you’re born with fashion in your blood,” said Erhard Schwendimann, Bally Shoe Factories’ area director for southern and western Europe.

The "Golden Rose" celebrated its golden jubilee in Lucerne.
